Why Photography Matters to Me

​
​My love for photography started when I was a kid.
I won a Diana F camera—a simple plastic camera with a flash—and that was all it took. I was fascinated by the idea that I could look at something through a camera, capture what I saw, and turn that moment into something I could keep.

​I started with black-and-white film. Later came darkrooms, developing film by hand, printing with an enlarger, 35mm, medium format, studio photography, school portraits, weddings, proms, headshots, family portraits and events.

Photography has been part of my life for decades. I've watched it move from film and darkrooms to digital cameras and, eventually, the phones we carry every day.
But something important changed along the way.
We take more pictures than ever, yet I believe we're celebrating ourselves less.

Our phones are filled with thousands of images, but most of them never leave the phone. There was a time when photographs were printed, placed in albums and displayed on the walls of our homes. They became part of the story of a family.

I believe photographs still deserve that life.
That's a big part of why I created @VisionsofYou.
Birthday photography isn't just about taking beautiful pictures. It's about giving you a reason to celebrate yourself, marking a milestone, documenting who you are at this moment and creating photographs that can become something tangible.

A photograph can go on your wall.
It can live in an album on your coffee table.
Years from now, someone can pick it up and see you exactly as you were.

That's what I want to create.
Not just photographs that sit on a phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I take Birthday Photos?

It's important that you take birthday photos at least 2-4 weeks before your birthday so you can have your photos  on your birthday.​

What should I wear to my Birthday Photoshoot?

You decide, Classy, Casual or Sexy! These are your milestone moments. The bottom line is your comfort. Wear what makes you feel beautiful!

Can I bring props to the Photoshoot?

You most certainly can!  Bring whatever prop that will complement your moment. Some examples: Balloons, cupcake/cake, crown, candles, flowers, champagne bottle etc.​

Is there anything I should avoid before the Photoshoot?

Avoid: Partying it up, drinking alcohol the night before, staying up too late, trying a new skincare product, going tanning or getting sun burn.​
